2011 Grand Rapids Championship Tournaments

Fairlanes

February 26, 2011 - March 28, 2011

Bowlers - here is a chance for you to earn some additional prize money for your leagues.

The Greater Grand Rapids USBC Association has developed an incentive program for the  City Tournaments --- the Open and the Women's tournaments.

We will pay your league $100.00 for every 6 teams your league enters in the tournament.

Enter 6 teams, earn $100.00.

Enter 12 teams, earn $200.00.

Enter 18 teams, earn $300.00.

If you cannot fill 6 teams from your league, then fill up the teams with your bowling friends, family, co-workers, etc. You may even "borrow" bowlers from other leagues.

But in order to get credit for your league, each team must have a minimum of 3 league members from your league.

Remember, team participation is unlimited.

But you must change at least 2 people on each additional team.

No, all the teams do not have to bowl at the same time.

Yes, you have to indicate what league and center your team(s) represent. With your help we will keep track of how many teams are entering from each league.

Mixed leagues can send a combination of Open teams and Women's teams. Three Open teams and three women's teams (or 5 and 1, or 4 and 2) will qualify your league for the $100.00 incentive.

Make your reservations by calling the Association office at 616-530-8195.

Rain, Snow, Sleet.  Do you risk it?

Who has the authority to call off bowling for the entire league because of bad weather?

The deciding party should be acting in the league's best interest considering the safety of the bowlers not only traveling to bowling but traveling home. While there is no specific rule giving the authority to cancel bowling because of inclement weather, decisions made by league officers and other parties given the authority to do so have been consistently upheld.

Some leagues have a committee to decide whether to cancel bowling, while others may conduct a telephone poll of board members. A majority vote is needed to make the decision to cancel bowling and should be done as early as possible. Once the decision is made, contact the teams and the center; many of your league members will call the center for information.

After a bad storm, all but two teams were able to field legal lineups. Are these two teams entitled to emergency post-ponements when all the other teams in the league were able to get to the lanes?

Yes, weather conditions which prevent a team from fielding a legal lineup are classified as emergencies. Leagues must grant post-ponements for emergencies when a team fails to appear for its scheduled match due to reasons beyond its control. Adverse weather conditions are sufficient reason to grant a postponement without advance notice.

Members must realize all bowlers do not face the same driving conditions or cir-cumstances, so the inability of an individual to drive under adverse conditions cannot be used as a basis for declaring games forfeited.
