We have survived the cold & snow, and now it's tournament time! City Championship Tournaments are starting soon for both the adult and youth. The tournament schedule is available on our website www.grgrusbc.org and entry forms will be available soon. The bowling association is again putting extra money into the tournament this year in hopes to help build our numbers. Please join in, ask a friend or new league member to join your team or let us know if you are interested in bowling and we will help put a team together. Thank you in advance for your support! Great Bowling!!! Congratulations to Frank Rybiski who rolled back to back 300 games enroute to an 824 series at Westgate Bowl in the Monday Morning Specials league on Feb. 10th. Frank is having an outstanding season. He has already added the 700/800 Tournament title to his accomplishments this season. Watch out city tournament!!!

Myth Buster Myth: You can't bowl while a pin is in the gutter. Correct Answer: False. You are allowed to bowl, however a bowling ball must not come in contact with anything before hitting the pins on the pin deck. If the ball hits a pin in the gutter, otherwise know as dead wood, the delivery counts, but resulting pinfall does not count (Rule 6b-Illegal Pinfall). A downed pin on the lane is also dead wood. USBC recommends dead wood is removed prior to making a delivery so you do not lose your opportunity to score. Illegal pinfall can also occur when pins ricochet after hitting deadwood and knock down pins.

Hard copies of the Greater Grand Rapids USBC Female/Male $1,500 Scholarship, Tony Lomonaco's $2,000 Scholarship and the Nancy Weatherbee $500 Scholarship have been mailed. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to go on-line and have your student complete the application or print them off for your student to begin working on them. Please remember the deadline for these to be in the mail back to our office is April 15, 2014. There is up to $4,000 in Scholarship money. Please encourage your senior to apply. All it will cost is a little time and a few stamps! |
The Greater Grand Rapids Bowling Council Brunswick-Mike Marks Pro Shop Doubles Championship This event was held Saturday, Feb. 1 @ Spectrum Lanes. The top twelve advanced to match play, with the top four (4) receiving byes. It took a 228 team average to make the cut. Top qualifiers after the 4 games were Don Nyenhuis Jr. & Mike Smith Jr. with a score of 1968 (246 avg.). The first round was two (2) game match play (total pins), then baker-style (2 games also) for the remaining matches. Congratulations to Ben Rabourn & Don Veltman for winning the tournament with a great team average of 246 for the day. They have received $900.00 and plaques for their 1st place win. They finished out the final two game baker match against 2nd place winners Chad Reiffer & Aaron Groendyk with games of 280 & 279. Great bowling!!
