Budweiser Open Results
DeHaan and Rocha earn titles

The Bowling Council held its first of five tournaments this season to help decide who makes the Men's and Women's All-City Teams.  The Budweiser Open was held September 20 at Spectrum Lanes.

In the men's division, Matt DeHaan averaged 232 for the tournament and defeated top qualifier Tyler Ladwig in the finals to claim 1st place and $599 prize money.

The women's division featured Ruth Ann Rocha and Amy Salee in the championship match, with Ruth Ann edging out Amy to take the title and $250 for first place.

Final standings can be found at the association website here.

League Secretaries - Certification Applications

Just a reminder to league secretaries to forward membership dues with completed league application and membership card applications to the local association manager as soon as you collect them.  Any additional members can be forwarded at that time.  The faster you turn them into the office the sooner our association manager can enter the information into the computer.  Although USBC gives you 30 days to process new applications, the Association is graded on its performance of how quickly we turn around our certification processing. In order to receive an "A" we have to have all leagues turned in within 30 days of the start of the season

Thank you for your help!

Bowling Myths

Myth?:  Once adopted all league rules are final.

Truth:  League rules can be changed by a majority vote prior to the first scored ball being thrown, even if after the organizational meeting.  League rules may also be changed after the first ball is thrown but only with written unanimous consent of all the team captains.

Myth?:  You can throw a ball with a pin in the gutter.

Truth:  A bowling ball must not come in contact with anything before hitting the pins on the deck.  If the ball hits a pin in the gutter, otherwise known as dead wood, the delivery counts, but resulting pinfall does not count (USBC Rule 6B - Illegal Pinfall).  A downed pin on the lane is also dead wood.  USBC recommends dead wood be removed prior to making a delivery so you do not lose your opportunity to score.  Illegal pinfall can also occur when pins ricochet after hitting dead wood and knock down pins.
