State Finals for High School Bowling Last weekend was the State finals for high school bowling and Grand Rapids was well represented. We had 16 different high schools that competed in team event at a chance to win a state title. Only four of the teams were able to make the Top 8 match play portion of the Finals. Zeeland boys finished 3rd in Division 1, South Christian girls finished 4th in Division 3, Caledonia Girls finished 5th in Division 1, Grand Haven boys finished 6th in Division 1 and Kelloggsville boys finished 6th in Division 3. A tremendous amount of practice and hard work paid off for these 4 special teams. We had 47 individual bowlers that made the Singles portion of the State finals. We had 12 bowlers that made the top 16 match play portion. The following boys and girls made match play and finished in the following places, Division 1 Boys singles-Sean Taylor (Caledonia) 3rd, Kaleb Schmidt (Grand Haven) 4th, Division 1 Girls singles-Macailin Rodriquez (Caledonia) 4th, Olivia Hoeksma (Zeeland)7th, Brittney Schnicke (Caledonia) 11th & Bailey Gulch (Hudsonville) 16th, Division 2 Boys singles-David Northouse (Byron Center) 11th Division 3 Boys singles-Sam Brandt (Fremont) 2nd, Brennen Proudfidt (South Christian) 3rd & Gage Nickelsen (Kelloggsville) 5th, Division 3 Girls singles-Krista VanSledright (South Christian) 8th, and Samariz Lofgren (Wyoming Lee) 13th As a coach that got to watch and coach my kids at the State finals in division 1, Grand Rapids has a bright future of great bowlers coming up from the High School programs. The sportsmanship and cheers that each of the athletes gave to each other makes me proud of all 47 individual bowlers and 16 teams for their run at State Finals. Thanks Coach Eric Bottrall Go Caledonia Scots! |
