In Memory of Jerry Nutt 1935 – 2016

jerry-nut-2016Jerry was a long time, and beloved, member of the local bowling community who made his mark, not just for his skills on the lane but for his leadership outside in the community. For over 25 years, he was a member of the McKinney’s Pro Shop team that also included, among others, Bill Smith, Gordy Slauter Sr. and Bill Stanfield that attended the ABC’s. In 1972, Jerry partnered with Bill Stanfield to win an Eagle in Long Beach, California, and for over 18 years he and Gordy Slauter were the owners of Sparta Lanes. He served as President of the of the Greater Grand Rapids Bowling Proprietors’ Assoc. on two separate occasions, as well as serving as a Director for the Bowling Center Owners of Michigan for ten years.

Jerry was instrumental in developing the WOTV Bowling Classic that aired for years on WOOD TV8, and in 1994, he became one of the founding members of the Greater Grand Rapids Bowling Hall of Fame. Jerry then served as a Hall of Fame committee member for many years. In 2001 he also was inducted into the Michigan State Bowling Hall of Fame.

Although Jerry has left us, his memory will endure.
