GRGRUSBC Annual Meeting & Elections

Dear League Officer/Association Member,

The 2017 Annual meeting of the Greater Grand Rapids USBC Association will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017, 7:00 p.m. at Westgate Lanes.

The following positions are to be filled by election for the corresponding terms:

  • Vice President
  • 5 Directors
  • 2 Youth Director
  • Delegates to the 2018 USBC National Meeting
  • Delegates to the 2018 Michigan State USBC WBA Annual Meeting (women only): 1-year term
  • Delegates to the 2018 Michigan State USBC BA Annual Meeting (Either gender provided they hold BA state membership)
  • Delegates to the 2018 Michigan State USBC Youth Annual Meeting
  • Delegates to the 2018 Michigan State Merger Meeting

Interested persons must submit the enclosed candidate application postmarked by April 21st, 2017 and be in attendance at the Annual Meeting (or have a note on file requesting to be excused).
To be eligible for nomination as an officer or director, a candidate must be:

  1. A USBC member in good standing of the association at the time of election and throughout their term.
  2. Must not be bowling in any un-certified (sanctioned) leagues of American Ten Pin.
  3. Must have a working knowledge of USBC rules and regulations.
  4. Must have a working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Parliamentary Procedures.
  5. Time to serve on committees and attend 6-7 board meetings each year.
  6. Candidates to be eligible for nomination as an officer shall have served at least three years as a member of GGRUSBC Board of Directors.

Additional eligibility requirements, if any, will be developed by the Nominating Committee.

Anyone wishing to be considered as a director or delegate must submit their qualifications to the Nominating Committee on the approved (enclosed) application. This form must be received by April 22nd, 2017.

Nominations from the floor may be made, providing the candidate’s qualifications have been submitted to the Nominating Committee at least one week prior to the opening of the Annual Meeting. These qualifications must be submitted on the approved candidate nomination form (application enclosed).

Grand Rapids Youth Shoots 1st 300 At State Tournament

On Sunday March 19th, Kyle Pranger shot his first 300 competing the Youth State Tournament at Century Lanes.  Oh wait, did I forget to mention that Kyle is just 12 years old!!!   This would make him the youngest Grand Rapids member to shoot 300, just beating out Matthew Buck who was 13 when he shot his 300 back in 2015. This may also be a state tournament record for the youngest bowler to have the honor score while participating, but we are still awaiting confirmation.

Kyle was off to a great start that weekend shooting his first ever 600 (628) in Saturday’s team event.  Riding that high into Sunday he managed to shoot 508 in doubles, followed up with  598 in singles which included his 300 in game 2.  Both of his days total up for an all-events score of 1734.  Kyle averaged 192 for the tournament with an entering  average of 158 up 22 pins from last year.

What an awesome way to end the season.  Great bowling Kyle!

2017 City Tournament Schedule

The schedule for the 2017 City Open and Women’s Tournament has been announced.  Team Event will be held at Paragon Lanes, and Doubles/Singles will be held at Sparta Lanes.  This years tournament will run from March 18th, through April 22nd.

Team event squads will be 11am and 3pm unless otherwise specified.
Doubles/Singles event squads will be 10am and 2pm unless otherwise specified.

Mixed Doubles Results

The Mixed Doubles event concluded last weekend at Park Center.  It was once again a great turn out.  This year we had 306 entries, and witnessed 4 perfect games by Sarah Pettenger, AJ Purdum, Melissa Sullivan, and Mike Horian.

Brooke Short and Randy Hawks combined for 1453 scratch and 1544 handicap to sweep both events!

National 600 Mail-O-Graphic Tournament

The National 600 Bowling Club, Inc. conducts a mail-o-graphic singles tournament for its members. This tournament will be held from January 23rd through February 12th, 2017. To enter the tournament, there are two forms to be used. For the 2017 tournament, the entry form with entry fee(s) must be returned to the above address postmarked no later than January 17, 2017. League scores for the dates of January 23 through February 12, 2017 will be used. You may enter in each league that you are a member, however, entrant may cash only once in each division entered. The score verification form must be returned postmarked no later than February 20, 2017.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO INCLUDE A COPY OF YOUR LEAGUE RECAP SHEET WITH CURRENT AVERAGE AND SIGNED VERIFICATION FORM.

An Incentive Award will be given to the State 600 Club with the most entries in the tournament. Please specify what 600 Club you belong to. If you do not have a local 600 Club, please use your local association. We are challenging each of you to bring in at least one new entrant to our Mail-o-Graphic Tournament. Remember, each entrant must be a member of the National 600. Click here for a membership application.

There are five (5) divisions used in this tournament:

  • Super Senior Division – Age 70 and over (proof of age required)
  • Senior Division – Age 55 to 69 (proof of age required)
  • Division A – 180 average and over
  • Division B – 179 thru 165 inclusive
  • Division C – 164 and Under

Senior Division and Super Senior entrants are asked to submit identification showing their age or birth date. A photocopy of a driver’s license is the most common form that will fulfill this requirement. Senior Division and Super Senior entrants may also enter the same league scores in A, B or C Division, but that would be two entries and each would require a separate entry form and entry fee of $10.00.

This tournament is handicapped at 90% of the difference of 235 less your average.

Awards are presented to the winners in each of the five divisions. A special cash award will be presented for the high scratch series and high scratch game in each division. Prize checks and the prize list will be mailed to the winners by April 15, 2017.

The entry fee is $10.00 PER ENTRY: Prize fund $7.00 and $3.00 for expenses. The prize fund will be returned 100%. Checks should be made payable to National 600 Bowling Club, Inc.

Mixed Doubles Coming Up!

Mixed Doubles Tournament is just around the corner!  Mixed Doubles this year will be held at Park Center, the weekends of January 14/15 and 21/22.  2 squads each day at Noon and 3:30.  You can bowl as many times as you would like (just have to change partners).
